Sorry? (=What? 조금 무례할 수 있다.)

 

The baby may well cry. 아기는 당연히 울지.

may well : 당연히 그렇지. (자주 쓰지는 않음)

You may well say so. 너가 그렇게 말하는 건 당연한거야.

 

I might as well go and take a walk since we are outside. 밖에 나왔으니까 이왕 나온 거 걷지 뭐.

 

hanging by a thread : very risky, 아슬아슬한, 위태롭다. (부정적인 뉘앙스 O)

Our relationships has been hanging by a thread after the argument. 우리의 관계는 싸운 이후로 계속 위태로워. (현재 완료 진행형 쓰기)

 

I really needed that. 나 진짜 그 말이 필요했어.

 

You deserve it vs. You earned it. 전자: 당연히 얻을만한 가치가 있는 것/ 후자: 훨씬 더 노력해서 얻은 뉘앙스 O

 

dad joke : 아재 개그

corny : 유치한 (살짝 뻔해서 유치한 거 Ex. 바람이 불면? 분당)

Tough crowd : 개그 날렸는데 너무 썰렁함 -> 오늘 관객들이 좀 차갑네. 주로 머쓱할 때 사용

fall for someone : 사랑에 퐁당 빠져버리다.

I'm falling hard and fast for him. 그에게 매우 급속도로 빠지고 있어. (falling deeply and quickly)

Gosh, I can't help it. I'm definitely falling for her. 어쩔 수 없어. 점점 그녀가 좋아져.

There's something about her. 그녀는 뭔가 말할 수 없는 매력이 있어.

There's something about David.

 

fall for something : 사기당하다. 속았다.

You fell for his lies again? You are so gullible. 너 또 속아넘어간거야? 넌 너무 잘 속아. (너무 잘 믿어.)

 

You guys crack me up. 너희들 때문에 빵 터졌어.

 

I didn't catch that. : 못 들었고 이해를 못했을 때 많이 쓰는 표현 (very formal, 비즈니스 상황에서도 쓸 수 있다.)

= I couln't hear you.

= I missed what you said.

 

ramble : 두서없이 막 횡성수설하는 것 (주로 감정적일 때 많이 사용)

Sorry for rambling. I have too many thoughts in my head.

You are venting out to friends. 말로 감정을 해소할 때 쓰인다.

I really need to vent out to someone right now.

 

The truth is... I fell for you the day that I met you, and I want to be more than just friends.

Sorry, could you repeat that? I couldn't hear you.

I messed up = I made a mistake = I did somthing wrong.(옳고 그름에 대한 문제라 사실상 잘못된 것을 한 거에 가까움)

I screwed up 이 더 강한 뉘앙스고 훨씬 캐주얼하다.(less formal)

That's messed up. = That's wrong, bad, or unfair. 도덕적으로 잘못된 것, 그른 것(단순히 실수의 개념이 아니다.)

Who would do this? This is so messed up. (Ex. 강아지를 유기한 상황을 보고 하는 대화)

 

What's that? What was that? (와워즈댓?) -매우 캐주얼한 표현

= What did you say? = Can you repeat yourself?

 

I'm loving your bag~ (지금 이거 너무 좋다. 느끼는 감정을 강조하고 싶을 때 사용, 원래는 love에 ing 이상하지만)

It's cute, right? It's brand spanking new. Fresh out of the mall! 완전 매장에서 갓 나온 따끈따끈한 신상이야.

I messed up. You're really not gonna be happy. 나 실수 좀 했어. 언니 화나겠지?

What's that? I couldn't hear you. 뭐라고? 못 들었어.

What I'm trying to say is... I spilled sauce on your new dress.

Are you kidding me? It's brand spanking new! 그거 완전 신상이라고!

 

- comfort food: a kind of food that feels familiar (childhood, 특히 어렸을 때가 생각나는 음식)

Ex. 장떡 is my comfort food. (soul food 보다 흔하게 사용됨)

- sit tight = wait (엉덩이 딱붙이고 있어.)

Ex. I asked her to sit tight until I'm done cooking.

- shake it off 털어버려~ (부정적인 감정을)

Ex. Just shake it off. It's not worth your attention.

- a great catch : someone who has so many great qualities. 요놈 참 물건이네~ 느낌. 진짜 좋은 신랑감, 아내감, 진국이야. (이성 볼 때 많이 쓰인다.)

Ex. Chelsea is a great catch. 첼시는 진국이야.

- old school : 유행이 지난.

Ex. That's so old school. (old fashion도 쓰지만 old school이 더 trendy하게 많이 쓰인다.)
